It is our goal to offer high quality, developmentally appropriate, fun and supportive music classes for young children and their parents/caregivers. Musical concepts such as steady beat, louder-softer, higher-lower, faster-slower, timbre, rhythm and pitch matching are explored through traditional & classic songs, finger plays, bounces, dances, and the use of small instruments and props (shakers, drums, rhythm sticks, tone bars, scarves). Our classes provide a place for children to move, sing, listen and play, building fundamental language and social skills.
How to get the most from Music Class:
• Please arrive early so that we can begin together and on time
• It will usually take your child a few classes to become comfortable with the routine and understand the expectations.
• We encourage parents/caregivers to be active in their child’s enjoyment of the classes by participating and modeling. You don’t have to be an experienced singer/musician… just sing along and interact with your child!
• Some toddlers will want to be in arms during movement activities. This is acceptable and your child will give you the cues when they are ready for more independent movement.
• If a child becomes very fussy, it usually works well to exit the class for a few quiet minutes
• Continue the music at home! Lyric & Song sheets will be provided.
Songs n’ Rhymes for Families (Fall, Winter & Spring Sessions)
Birth-5 Years, with a parent/caregiver. 35 minutes Babies, Toddlers, Preschoolers, Siblings and parents/caregivers will enjoy sharing finger plays, bounces, songs, dances and instrument play. The classes will be tailored to the ages & stages of the children registered.
Songs n’ Rhymes for Preschoolers (Fall & Spring Sessions)
3 Years + with a parent/caregiver. 40 minutes This class is geared towards your young child’s developing imagination and growing independence. We will move like our favourite animals and take turns in singing games and instrument play.
Sound Explorers: (JK/SK)- 34 Weeks
45 minutes, children only (parent sharing times will be arranged) Kindergarten age children are now ready to play in a group with more complex partner and circle games. Musical elements will be experienced through fun singing games, rhythm activities, instrument play and listening activities. Solo singing and playing and ensemble work is encouraged.
Fine Musicians (Grade 1&2)- 36 Weeks
60 minutes, children only (parent sharing times will be arranged) Children will continue to develop their musicality through more challenging singing and rhythm games and ensemble playing. We will experience various instruments through workshops with guest teachers to help determine what instruments to pursue in private instruction.
Star Singers (Grade 2/3)- 36 Weeks
60 minutes. Young singers will enjoy playing Orff/Kodaly style singing & rhythm games and developing musicianship through beginner note reading, ear training, solo singing & ensemble work. Previous experience is recommended but not required.
