Robert Leader comes by his rhythm honestly; genetically, as a matter of fact. Following (literally) in the footsteps of his father, Robert's drumming career began at a very young age, in Guelph marching band, "The Royal Knight's". Eventually, he left the regimented, lock-step marching band behind, sat down behind a drum set, and discovered an appetite for the progressive-rock music of bands like Rush, King Crimson and Yes. His passion for this music was fostered by a musical friendship that lead to the formation of The Kite, a band that garnered international acclaim, being released on the prestigious A&M label in America and Bellaphon Records in Europe and Asia. Radio rotation and television appearances ensued, but like so many Canadian bands before it, The Kite found the rigors were simply too demanding.
Robert then found himself behind the kit with Indie-Can-Rock legends, the kramdens, where he remains to this day. Throughout his tenure, the band has released six albums, with 2002's "Quiet Collision" being released domestically on EMI and around the world on TB Records. Appearances on Open Mike with Mike Bullard, CBC Radio, CTV, and a CASBY Award nomination have been some of the highlights thus far. They have been referred to as "the most entertaining band in Canada". Twenty years in, the kramdens continue to thrive.
